M. César Juárez-Joyner to lecture on Mexican Music and Culture in Paris

Under the title “L’univers musical mexicain, référence culturelle et miroir d’identité“, M. César Juárez-Joyner, the artist behind the Ready Made Sound System moniker will give a lecture on thursday February 25, at the Instituto Cultural de México, in Paris.

Rubinskee Remixes Pau y Sus Amigos
A couple of months ago, Discos Tormento held up a remix context, asking producers from Mexico and the rest of the world to submit their remixes of the track “Buzzards” from the forthcoming debut album by Pau y Sus Amigos, entitled “El Bar de Peter Pan“. Among the many remixes submitted, Rubinskee’s Remix was selected to appear in the aforementioned album. Congratulations!

Back in August, electronica podcast Jammy Toast featured ” It’s always the same BS: We kiss and I have to leave in a hurry” by Hz from his Living Undercover EP, and “Hide Ruds” from Rubinskee’s Telúrico EP. You can listen to the podcast here. The podcast is really worth a listen. It showcases an amazing selection of electronic music published under creative-commons licenses and other copyright-safe agreements.

Sr. Mandril on Two New Movie Soundtracks

“Naco is Chido” is a humorous mockumentary about seminal Mexican rock band Botellita de Jerez, directed by Sergio Arau. The story, writen by Sergio Arau, Armando Vega-Gil and Tihui, begins when some students (played by Mexican band Yucatán a Go-Go) find the lost master copy of the last CD of the band, which will actually turn into the newest one. When it gets to the record company, with Macuca, an executive there, she hires a secret detective to find the members of the band, in order to have a promotion concert with them. The detective finds them. Cucurrucucu is in a mental hospital, Mastuerzo gets busted for making explosive songs, and Uyuyuy is a homeless living in Los Angeles. The movie contains mockummentaries on the seminal importance of the band from people like La Lupita, Roco from Maldita Vecindad, Gustavo Santaolalla, Armando Manzanero, Laura Esquivel, Carlos Monsiváis and others. The soundtrack contains new covers of songs from the band’s first three albums by bands like Café Tacuba, Molotov, Liquits, Plastilina Mosh, El Gran Silencio, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Kinky, Yucatán a Go-Gó, Alejandro Otaola, La Cantante Calva, Tex Tex, Los de Abajo, and our own Señor Mandril.

Intolerancia Records is also launching the soundtrack for Adolfo Martínez Orzynski’s film “Juegos Inocentes“, featuring bands like Hummersqueal, Descartes a Kant and Señor Mandril. Ignacio Riva Palacio, Abril Reyes, Eréndira Ibarra, Alan Fernando, Alberto Reyes and Oswaldo Zárate star in this teen weekend gone bad adventure.

The Incognito Traveller on Solipsistic Nation Podcast No. 169: Pixicast

The Incognito Traveller’s “Marguerite” is currently the top track in the large ‘Pixies Palace‘ group tag radio at Last.fm (for which over 5000 artist, albums and tracks have been tagged to date). No suprise then, that when DJ Marie Craven, know to many as Pixieguts, was invited to guest DJ the latest podcast on Solipsistic Nation, she wrapped up the show with this beautiful track. Pixieguts is a member of the bands Cwtch and PIXSID. She is also the founder of the Palace Network and co-produces the Pixicast with Dave Almgren, also know as Voide. Pixicast is a show that focuses entirely on music that comes from indie and netlabels.

Two New Net Releases featuring Emmerichk

Fans of minimal technohead Emmerichk rejoice! You can now download a brand new track and a new remix by the Mexican producer. The brand new tracks is called “Teseracto” and is part of the 4th Anniversary special compilation “Selfmade” from Japanese netlabel Yuki Yaki. It is available for free download both as an MP3 and an Ogg file.

Also, Chlienean netlabel Pueblo Nuevo has just delivered its 50th release, “El Poder Corrompe“, a 6 tracks EP by Chilenean producer Daniel Jeff, featuring also a few remixes, including Emmerichk’s remix of “Mas allá de” (7:16) avaialable for free download as a 320 kbps mp3, Ogg Vorbis and Flac file.

Señor Mandril Remix Contest!

Sr. Mandril is inviting Musicians, Producers and Bands remix one or more of his tracks. Soundfiles for songs like “Perro Groovero”, “El otro Joe” and “Funky Monkey” are available for download right now, and the last day to send us your remix is January 15, 2010. The most original remixes will be selected by the band to appear on Sr. Mandril´s third album, on the second quarter of 2010, which will be distributed around Mexico and Canada.
