
“Naco is Chido” is a humorous mockumentary about seminal Mexican rock band Botellita de Jerez, directed by Sergio Arau. The story, writen by Sergio Arau, Armando Vega-Gil and Tihui, begins when some students (played by Mexican band
Yucatán a Go-Go) find the lost master copy of the last CD of the band, which will actually turn into the newest one. When it gets to the record company, with
Macuca, an executive there, she hires a secret detective to find the members of the band, in order to have a promotion concert with them. The detective finds them.
Cucurrucucu is in a mental hospital,
Mastuerzo gets busted for making explosive songs, and
Uyuyuy is a homeless living in Los Angeles. The movie contains mockummentaries on the seminal importance of the band from people like
La Lupita, Roco from
Maldita Vecindad, Gustavo Santaolalla, Armando Manzanero, Laura Esquivel, Carlos Monsiváis and others. The soundtrack contains new covers of songs from the band’s first three albums by bands like
Café Tacuba, Molotov, Liquits, Plastilina Mosh, El Gran Silencio, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Kinky, Yucatán a Go-Gó, Alejandro Otaola, La Cantante Calva, Tex Tex, Los de Abajo, and our own
Señor Mandril.
